Second Pairing: The Man Who Wasn't There with Fear And Desire

This was my hair-brained idea of a pairing.  I don't have any real concrete reason why, other than they are both in black and white and I wanted to compare some of the shots that the Coen's used in various shades of darkness, with the shots from Kubrick infamous first film, which up until recently was not available to the public.  But, really, it's the strangeness of both of the storylines. Something about Ed's (Billy Bob Thorton) self-assigned task to train up an untalented musician (Scarlet Johansson) in Man, with the self assigned task that they trapped soldiers give themselves to infiltrate an enemy base and take out the local general in Fear And Desire.  There is also something kind of paralell between the alien subplot in Man that sort of matches up with the desire that the trapped soldiers show "The Girl" (Virginia Leith) in Fear.
