Today Is:

322 Days To Baktun 13

Re-discovered in 1937, Caracol is amongst the largest Maya ruined cities in the modern country of Belize.  It's name is not Mayan, it is Spanish for "snail shell," to allude to the volute shape, because of the road leading up the site is spiral.  The city consisted of a staggering 267 structures.  It's occupation was between the timeline of 1200BCE to 750 ACE.  Excavations have uncovered several city complex areas including an intact ball court.  The most notable, and famous, discovery was of the astronomical observation tower.
