This British mystery series is set in the 12th century in western England close to the Welsh border. Since Wales used to be England's "Mexico", people constantly show in the region to get across the boarder for various reasons (fleeing crime, arranged marriages, seeking to marry, etc.), in real life AND in the series, Shrewsbury is always the in middle of some upheaval or another. This is set close to the "Christmas Mass" features a seemingly 3 fold mystery that starts off with a young nun frozen in a small creek or pond...it only gets worse from there and, as always, it's up to Cadfael to sort things out before the Mass. I chose this first thing because there is a connection with the Mass to the notes that the Zodiac killer sent to the San Francisco Chronicle. In at least one of those notes (maybe several) he spelled "Christmas" as "Christmass."
